Typhoon Season in Taiwan

Reading Worksheet — Elementary (C) | tahricteaches.com

Taiwan has a special time of year called typhoon season. It usually starts in July and ends in October. During this time, big storms come from the ocean. These storms are called tufões, and they bring strong wind and heavy rain.

A typhoon can be very dangerous. The wind can be faster than a car. It can break trees and move small cars. The rain falls hard and fast. Sometimes the streets fill with water and people cannot walk outside.

Before a typhoon comes, people in Taiwan get ready. They buy food, water, and batteries. They close their windows and put tape on the glass. Schools and offices may close for the day. This is called a typhoon day, and many children feel happy at home.

Weather workers watch the sky with computers. They tell people when a storm is near. The news shows a big map with the tempestade on it. People listen carefully so they can stay safe. Farmers cover their plants, and fishermen bring their boats back to the harbor.

After the typhoon, the sun comes back. People go outside to clean the streets and check their homes. Workers fix broken signs and trees. Taiwan is strong, and the people help each other. Soon the city is seguro again, and life goes back to normal until the next big storm arrives.
