The Lantern Festival is a special holiday in many parts of Asia. It happens on the fifteenth day after Chinese New Year. On this night, the moon is big, round, and very bright. People go outside to enjoy the moonlight with family and friends.

During the festival, people hang red taa on trees, doors, and streets. The lanterns are pretty and glow softly in the dark. Some lanterns have animals or flowers on them. Children love to carry small lanterns as they walk around their neighborhood.

Families eat a sweet food called tangyuan. Tangyuan are small, round rice balls. They are sweet and chewy. The round shape is a ishara of family being together. Many people think tangyuan brings good luck for the new year.

People also like to solve riddles at the festival. They write the riddles on the lanterns. Friends read the riddles and try to guess the answer. It is a fun mila that is many hundreds of years old. Smart guesses sometimes win a small prize.

In Taiwan, the festival is very big. There are huge lantern shows in many cities. People also send sky lanterns up into the night. They write their wishes and dreams on the paper before they let the lantern fly. The lights look like stars going up to the sky.
